The Diving Almanac & Book of Records
Welcome to the Diving Almanac & Book of Records Online
The Diving Almanac & Book of Records is the only record book and Who's Who of the world diving community. It was initially available in print format only with the first of three editions launched at the 2006 DEMA Show. Rave reviews by new and veteran divers alike are unanimous: the Diving Almanac & Book of Records is a must-have resource for divers everywhere. The Diving Almanac & Book of Records presents information on every aspect of diving, including recreational, commercial, scientific and military activities. Now updated on a daily basis, it provides the most up-to-date information on diving demographics, hundreds of diving records and personalities, 6000+ years of diving history, training, medicine, federations and associations per country, equipment, marine biology, oceanography, publications and DVDs, as well as dive destinations for over 150 countries and territories.
Authoritative, wide-ranging and easy to use, the Diving Almanac & Book of Records is the world's most complete and easily accessible reference on diving. 3464 articles containing facts, figures, maps and illustrations, provide you with a unique world perspective of diving activities, the diving community, and underwater sciences. No other single publication or website offers such a wealth of information on as many diving-related subjects, and now it’s all free.

Errors, omissions and transition to online
The Diving Almanac & Book of Records is the only compilation of such diverse and far-ranging information on the diving industry. Much of the information was obtained directly from the source or from verified references. However, getting the latest information on diving records and what may appear as simple data is far from easy. Even in this day and age of the Internet and satellite communications, language and cultural barriers, as well as the absence of a central body of information, make it very difficult to gain access to all of the latest news on the diving and aquatic worlds.
The online edition of the Diving Almanac & Book of Records may thus contain factual errors and omissions, none of which are deliberate or meant to ignore the accomplishments of any individual or group. If you discover any mistakes or omissions, please forward the correct information: editor@divingalmanac.com
We also ask for your assistance in obtaining new information such as missed records or world firsts, and we will gladly receive nominations for the Who’s Who chapter. The Diving Almanac & Book of Records is an inclusive and non-partisan publication meant to showcase the accomplishments of the world diving community. If anyone you know – including yourself – should be included in our Who’s Who of diving, please contact us.
Finally, the transition from a printed book to an online publication is ongoing. Please let us know of any references to the print edition that should be corrected. Also, we will continue to add photos and videos, as well as new articles on a daily basis. We expect the transition to be completed by the spring of 2010.

Safety Note
Although the Diving Almanac & Book of Records may well complement a scuba instruction program, it is not meant to be used as a training manual. Any person who wishes to become a certified diver must register in a course offered by one of the many professional training agencies based around the world and dispensed by certified instructors. Individuals attempting to dive without proper training or supervision do so at their own risk.
Like the millions of certified divers around the world, ensure your diving experiences are safe and pleasurable by signing up in a recognized training program before your first dive. Your life depends on it.

After several years of hard work, the first edition of the Diving Almanac was launched at the DEMA Show in Orlando in October 2006. Little did we know the effort required to write and self-publish would pale in comparison to running a successful publishing business, especially during a full-blown worldwide economic recession. Marketing, networking, getting reviews, selling and distributing books soon proved to be a colossal challenge. Were it not for the tremendous and unrelenting work of Patricia Hay, thousands of copies would still be sitting in a warehouse. Were it not for the addition of Mr. Blaise Barrette to the team, producing the online edition would have been as big a challenge. We could not have hoped for a more dedicated and efficient partner.
Several more people took up the challenge and helped us turn this project into a success. Some of these people were good friends and family, others were complete strangers who offered their trust and friendship without expecting anything in return. I could not have published again without their help.
Special thanks to the Historical Diving Society, the Divers Alert Network (DAN), Scuba Diving International / Technical Diving International (SDI/TDI), AIDA International (Association internationale pour le développement de l’apnée), and CMAS Quebec (AMCQ) who contributed much technical and educational material.
Many thanks to Chris Harvey-Clark, John Batt, Paul Boissinot, Richard Savignac, Rosemary Lunn and Warren Miller, whose unrelenting support and boundless passion for the underwater world have been an inspiration; and to the late Jacques-Yves Cousteau who fired our imagination and passion for exploring the unknown depths through his many films and books.
Thanks to NOAA for making available an unending supply of invaluable information and photos on the marine environment and research. Patrice Strazzera, Ken Jones, Dr. Alex Mustard and Martin Robson for their amazing images and texts, and the late Aidan R. Martin, for sharing his friendship and his passion and expertise on sharks.

Cargile, Brian Carney, Dr. José Castro, California Ships to Reefs (CS2R), CEGEP de Drummondville, Claude Chapuis, Ben Davison (Undercurrent Magazine), Valeri Darkin, Bob Evans, Emma Farrell, Haydee Galindo (Anthony’s Key Resort), André Gallant, Alec & Deany Hay, Jason Heller, Carlos Hiller, John Hott, Nick Icorn, Peter Jackson, Leslie Leaney, Pascal Lecocq, Loïc & Val Leferme, Steve Lewis, Susan Long, Anne Martin, Neil McDaniel, Marjorie Maury, Blair Mott, Dr. Phil Nuytten, Chantal Pelletier, Sidney Macken, Christine McTaggart, Alison Mills, Nyle Monday, Blades Robinson (Dive Rescue Intl), Martin Robson (Eau2), Kent Rockwell, Franck Seguin, Bob Sterner, Rick and Kathy Stratton, Patrice Strazzera, William Trubridge.
